July 29, 2005 - Leslie Gray
Streeter of the Palm Beach Post was on hand at the Sound Advice Ampitheatre
for the kickoff of the Backstreet Boys' tour on Friday (July 22), chatting
with fans eager to watch the once-premier boy band begin its comeback tour.
Streeter writes, "Who is attending a Backstreet Boys show in 2005? And
the answer is: The same girls who were at the Backstreet Boys show in 1998.
Even though their tastes have grown to include the harder sounds of Green
Day and All-American Rejects, BSB still occupies a place in their hearts,
and their CD collections." Read more.
July
29, 2005 - If it wasn't for their appearance on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show',
the Backstreet Boys might not have gotten back together. But on a show
focusing on McLean's battles with substance abuse, Winfrey coaxed his bandmates
to surprise him on air. After the emotional reunion, the group holed up
in a hotel room and talked about a comeback. "There was probably even some
doubt among us when we first started talking about it," Howie Dorough tells
The Associated Press. "But I think no matter what we did individually...
we all realized our strength was among the five of us together." Read more.
July 29, 2005 - Sean Piccoli
of the Sun-Sentinel caught up with the Backstreet Boys, where Nick Carter
shared his thoughts on the prospects of 'American Idol' winners. "I think
it's going to be interesting to see how a lot of these artists pan out
[given] the fact that they have gotten success so quickly," Carter said,
adding, "We started at the grass roots, starting from, you know, nothing
and building it up slowly and then over the time period, and that's the
old-fashioned way of how an artist goes about it ... So I really don't
know how much structure the artists that come from ['American Idol'] are
going to have, but it's going to be interesting ... to see if they can
handle the stress of what this industry has to offer." Read more.
July 29, 2005 - Deborah Wilker
of the Hollywood Reporter reviewed the Backstreet Boys' tour kickoff at
the Sound Advice Amphitheater on Friday (July 22) in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Wilker writes, "Other than the fact that [Nick] Carter still can't sing
at all and should not be thrust forward as if he can -- he was alarmingly
out of tune at times -- the breezy 95-minute set was a textbook example
of a big pop show done well: earnest presentation, pretty melodies and,
blessedly, no crotch-grabbing." Read more.

July 10, 2005 - A press release
issued Wednesday indicates Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter pled guilty
to driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 or greater, and the larger
charge of a DUI (driving under the influence) was dismissed. The guilty
charge comes with state required minimum of 3 years probation, a small
fine, 90 day restricted drivers license and a required three month alcohol
program which can be fulfilled upon completion of his current tour with
Backstreet's new album, 'Never Gone.' "Reports of Nick being ordered to
rehab are completely false and misleading, the sentence he received was
the California State required minimums given to anyone found guilty of
this charge," said publicist Juliette Harris, "we are grateful to his legal
team, the court and District Attorney. His required fulfillment of the
alcohol program will not interfere with Backstreet Boy's current touring
and promotions of the new album." The release concludes that Carter regrets
his mistake and looks forward to fulfilling his requirements and putting
this incident behind him and that he's thankful to his fans for standing
by him and the Backstreet Boys.
