Orlando Bloom has exploded onto the scene with back to back blockbuster film releases in late 2001 and early 2002. Born January 13, 1977 in Canterbury, Kent, Orlando pointed himself towards acting early on with a move to London at the age of 16 where he joined the National Youth Theatre for two seasons and then gained a scholarship to train with the British

American Drama Academy. Just before he began training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, he had a small cameo appearance as a rentboy in the film 'Wilde' starring Stephen Fry. After studying at Guildhall for three years, Orlando graduated with a 3 year acting course under his belt. Live at drama school wasn't without trouble though as the aspiring actor nearly lost his life as he recently explained to Regis & Kelly, "Before I finished training at drama school, I'd been training for three years, and I'd had a pretty intense three years of training. I'd broken my back the year prior to leaving drama school, so the year before I went out to 'Lord of The Rings', I'd broken my back and having a kinda near death experience like that, because I feel three floors and I was gonna be in a wheelchair, but they managed to put me back together again. It kinda gave a new perspective on life, you know, a new appreciation and kind of, it was the best thing for me in a lot of ways."

After overcoming that tragedy, Orlando caught a huge break by being cast just days before finishing at Guildhall when he was cast in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien to play the role of Legolas Greenleaf. The filming in New Zealand was long but definitely wasn't tough on the actor, as he admitted afterwards, "I miss it madly. We sampled everything the country has to offer. The weirdest things to throw yourself off are to be found in New Zealand." While many with the short experience Orlando had would be ecstatic to get a role in such a blockbuster trilogy, Orlando got another break by being cast in Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down. Ironically, his role in the film included a steep fall that mirrored his accident that had earlier brought him to near death. Bloom explained, "In the beginning, my character falls about 70 feet from a helicopter, breaks his back and numerous other parts of his body, and then has to get taken to safety on a convoy. It's part of the ranger creed, you know: 'You never leave a man behind.'" Playing accidents shouldn't be difficult for Bloom, who admits to Interview magazine, "I'm rather accident-prone, I have to admit. I've broken my back, my ribs, my nose, both my legs, my arm, my wrist, a finger and a toe and cracked my skull three times." The future looks bright for the actor with the two subsequent episodes of LOTR due out in 2002 and 2003, not to mention a huge level of interest he's garnered, making Orlando the most popular male actor on the internet. If searches on logged on Overture.com are any indication, many hope the actor takes a picture a nude role, or at least shirtless. The attention as being the latest heartthrob caused him surprise: "I find it amazing that people get so excited."

Orli has kept a rather low profile in the romance department, and many have wondered aloud what gender he's choosing to get naked with. While Orlando has admitted, "Basically, I can say that I came to acting because of the women," many point to his close relationship with Andre Schneider, who is bisexual, and Ian McKellen, who is gay, as reason to doubt his preference in women. In fact, homosexual E! Online gossip writer Ted Casablanca recently wrote, "Tongues are waggin' about the cozy gang from the Oscar-nom-anointed Lord of the Rings. It seems Orlando Bloom, Viggo Mortensen, Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd and Sean Astin are quite chummy with one another." Still, Bloom has been linked to actress Joanne Morley, whom he dated in 1997, just after Morley had broken up with Schneider. The immediate bond of Andre and Orlando stunned Morley, who said she was "surprised to see that there was no hatred at all" when they finally met. On the contrary: "The liked each other from the very start." Orlando also has been linked to British model Jemma Kidd. The latest word is that Bloom is dating a French journalist he has met in Cannes. As for any rumors, Bloom seems to ignite them by keeping closed-lipped, for reasons he explained, "I won't admit or deny anything. Makes me more interesting."

"Kate and Orlando were talking, drinking and laughing. Then they just started going at it (kissing)," an insider revealed. "They made out for ages and looked like they were really enjoying themselves. They didn't care who was watching. After that first make-out session, they walked around and talked to everyone as a couple. They were inseparable for the rest of the night."
