May 31, 2003 - Ricky Martin's recently released album 'Almas del Silencio' debuted at Number One on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart after selling more than 65,000 copies in its first week of release, making it the largest first week sales of any all-Spanish language album in the SoundScan era. May 29, 2003 - Newsweek's Vanessa Juarez caught up with Ricky Martin recently for a Q&A. Asked if he realized that he had started a Latin explosion, Martin responded, "I never thought of an explosion. I was just enjoying what I was doing. After that, a lot of people came. May 28, 2003 - Ricky Martin brushed off suggestion that he might be piggybacking on the more serious reputations of singer-songwriters Alejandro Sanz, Ricardo Arjona, Juanes, and Franco de Vita, all of whom penned songs on his latest effort 'Almas del Silencio'. "They're friends, they know what I am," he tells Jordan Levin of Knight Ridder. "They know the applause, they know what it is to feel violated. May 23, 2003 - Ricky Martin was on MTV's Total Request Live on Wednesday where a big fan of his got the chance to ask him a question, how he gets all the energy to do his two hour live shows filled with energenic dancing. "Well, I guess that's exactly what I say, you know what I'm going to stop for a little while and I'm going to recharge my energy," Martin said. "I think the audience is very important. It's, you know, me with the help of my -- with the microphone I can make 25,000 people vibrate, imagine what their vibrations do to me. A circle of energy. It's completely addictive." Ricky also weighed in on the dancing talents of his female singing counterparts. On Shakira, he says, "It's all about the soul and she's got it. She's got it. She's got it." And on what advice he'd give Britney Spears, Ricky commented, "What are you talking about? She should give me advice. Amazing." Finally on Jennifer Lopez in her 'I'm Glad' video, Ricky says, "My baby! That's my baby. Look at her."

May 21, 2003 - Conan O'Brien joked during his Late Night monologue on Tuesday, "Today, Ricky Martin released his first all-Spanish album in more than five years. Martin says he hopes the album will end the big rumor that he's a one-hit wonder. Yeah. [Laughter] Yeah, which is really odd because that's not the big rumor about Ricky. [Laughter and applause] I don't know what it is. Ha, ha, ha. [Laughter] I did that for legal reasons."

May 20, 2003 - The Sun reports Ricky Martin admits he is a sensitive soul. The singer says, "I do come from a Latino culture but I also cry sometimes. I show emotions a lot of the time – women like that."

May 20, 2003 - While preparing to release his first Spanish-language album in five years, Ricky Martin has launched a new initiative with the aim of fighting child pornography and prostitution worldwide. Called People for the Children, the project is part of the Puerto Rico-based Ricky Martin Foundation. Martin tells Billboard, "I started to find out exactly what's happening with child prostitution worldwide, and the numbers are astonishing. In the next 10 years, it will be the single biggest problem for our society -- even bigger than the war against drugs. I'm not going to point out specific countries, but I am going to speak with every president and point out numbers and statistics." Read more.

May 16, 2003 - Peoplenews.com reports Jennifer Lopez has signed a partnership deal with Telemundo, a Spanish-language network in America, which will enable her to connect with Spanish speakers in the States and across the world. "I wanted to get involved in making shows for Telemundo because I am committed to creating quality shows for our culture," she said. "I see this opportunity as a way to connect to the Spanish-speaking audience in a different and more profound way than I've ever been able to do in the past." Read more.

May 11, 2003 - Mehrunisa writes "Ricky Martin recieved a standing ovation as he recieved the "Star" award Thursday night at the 2003 Billboard Latin Music Awards. Then he performed his new single 'Tal Vez', which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Latin hot 100 tracks chart and is still at #1 for 6 weeks in a row. May 6, 2003 - Ricky Martin tells the Canadian Press he's torn between the brutality of the war in Iraq and his support for family members stationed with U.S. forces in Baghdad. "I believe in a philosophy that the biggest weapon we use is non-violence," he said. "But at the same time I have a really big problem. "When we talk about blood, I'll go deeper with it and I won't hesitate to even question the need (for the military intervention)." Martin said he had two family members are stationed in Baghdad. Martin, who danced alongside U.S. President George W. Bush at his 2001 inauguration festivities, vowed to donate medicine, clothes and books to Iraqi children through his charitable foundation. May 6, 2003 - On Thursday, the Latin music faithful and performers will again be looking for Ricky Martin to perform his magic when the Billboard Latin Music Awards show takes place at Miami Arena. Martin, who on May 20 will release 'Almas Del Silencio' -- his first Spanish-language album in five years -- is expected to again give a mesmerizing performance. "Is he going steal the house? Probably, because he rocks," said Angela Rodriguez, a Miami-based publicist who has worked with some of the biggest names in Latin music. "I think Ricky will probably rule." Read more.

May 3, 2003 - When asked how it felt to be back with the new single 'Tal Vez', Ricky Martin told Access Hollywood, "It was important to take time so I could find my center again and find focus. May 3, 2003 - Ricky Martin tells Extra TV he traveled a lot to India and that is when he made a personal decision to make a spiritual album and to go back to his roots - singing in Spanish.
